Newsletter 1/2019

1 Sep

Welcome to the start of a new bowls season and it looks to be another good year for Sorell. We have teams in Saturday’s Div1, 4, and Div6. On Thursdays we have Div 1 and Div4 in the ladies roster and on Wednesdays we have Div 2 and Div3 in the Men’s midweek roster. The rosters will be posted on the notice board at the clubrooms as they become available.

Now what’s happening around the club at the moment-

Annual Membership Fees – Annual Fees are now due so if you haven’t paid yet, please call into the club and renew your membership. Non-financial member cannot be selected for roster games and are not eligible to use the club’s facilities.

Eftpos – The Club has installed an Eftpos outlet in the bar. In this day of an almost a cashless society we can now pay over the bar with the plastic card. However, at this stage there is no Cash-Out facility available.

Bar Prices – While some members will not be happy, the bar prices will be increasing due to inflation and GST. There will however be “Happy Hours” for our members at various times throughout the week.

Sorell Team Shirts – If anybody requires a new shirt for the upcoming season, then place your name and size/type of shirt you require on the list on the notice board at the club. Orders will be placed soon.

Sorell Casual Shirt – A design for a casual polo shirt is being looked at. This shirt will be good for times that the official team shirt is not used and we want to be identified as members of our Club. A couple of sample will be prepared soon for members to look at. Orders will be taken thereafter

Patron’s Plate – the Match Committee has completed the draw for the Patron’s Plate and this has been placed on the Club’s notice board. There are also dates that respective games need to be completed by. Failure to complete games within the relevant timeframe may result in a forfeit.

Meals – After various discussions with a suitable contractor, our Club will be having meals available commencing on 21 Sept 2019. At the start there will be meals on Saturday evenings (5.30pm – 8.00pm) and if this goes well, the meals may be available Friday night as well. At this stage meals will be prepared to order but if there is a need “Roast Dinners” will be included on the well priced Menu. Bookings will be available for large numbers coming in for dinner. Come along and have a good meal at a very reasonable price. The kitchen will also be available for lunches on Saturdays during the Pennant Season.

Around the Club – There have been some renovations in the kitchen so the Bain Marie can sit at a workable level. A big Thank You to Darrel Hope for his efforts with this. The green is looking good and our new Greenkeeper, Ross Wakefield, is putting many hours getting on top of some of the problems that we have. Who knows Rink 4 might come good ??

The new board is working hard but we cannot do or know everything so if there is any queries, questions or suggestions please come forward and let us know your thoughts or use the suggestion box if you wish. Contrary to what you may have been told “We won’t bite(Much)” and we seek input from all members of OUR Club.
